It is a perfect blend of creativity, heroism, art, music, and all things life. I have a special love for the media, and if you are anything like me, you will love this article. Also, there are no spoilers, so you don’t need to worry about ruining your movie if you haven’t yet seen any. It is just a list of recommended movies you should not miss out on. So, let’s just dive into it.
1. Avengers: Endgame
This year would have been hard for you if you were a Marvel fan. Avengers Endgame marked the end of phase three, and this movie was an absolute masterpiece. Endgame became the highest-grossing film of all time, crossing James Cameron’s Avatar. It has the best actors and storytellers.
If you haven’t seen this, you are missing out on one of the best movies ever. It may be confusing for you if you haven’t seen the earlier movies, but here is a great suggestion, watch everything from the start. You will not regret it.
2. Once upon a time in Hollywood
Once upon a time in Hollywood is a film by the legendary director Quentin Tarantino. So, it is bound to be good. On top of that, it has legendary casting: Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio (the Titanic & Inception fame), Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie.
The story is set in 1969, and the movie offers excellent cinematography with a great storyline. It is a beautiful piece of art; it is some of the best work from 2019. If you have good taste, you will probably love this movie.
3. Joker
Joker was an exceptional masterpiece. It became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. Although it portrays the evil and cruel side of the world, the film is impressive.
The performance by Joaquin Phoenix was just groundbreaking. The movie takes you down a spiral of emotions projected with utmost perfection.
It is about finding salvation in the madness and peace in chaos. Joker has always been one of the most exciting and unpredictable characters of all time, making it one of the most challenging characters to play. This movie will blow your mind.
4. The Irishmen
The Irishmen was an excellent movie for a lot of reasons. For starters, it was directed by Martin Scorsese, one of the finest people in cinema history.
The cast is from the legendary Godfather, which is why many people feel it is similar to The Godfather. So, it is something worth looking into.
If you are a fan of history, this is for you. Although it is pretty long for a movie, it is a good movie.
You will not be let down by the humor, story, and mind-blowing acting. The three and a half hours you spend watching the Irishmen will be well spent.
5. The lighthouse
The lighthouse is one of the strangest movies you will ever see, but it is a great movie, all the same. It is about two men who tend to a lighthouse and slowly go mad.
Directed by Robert Eggers, it is truly a work of art. The lighthouse is a horror film about how isolation makes people act in pure insanity.
The actors have done a great job, and the cinematography is just the next level. If you can connect to the film, it will be one of your favorite movies.
6. Ford v Ferrari
The name may mislead you into thinking that Ford v Ferrari is just another racecar movie, but that is not the case. It is an excellent film by James Mangold, and the cast is also legendary, starring actors like Matt Damon and Christian Bale.
The story, the vibe, and the movie’s feel will immerse you. The rivalry between the two motor giants to create a better vehicle in the story is just amazing. You don’t need to be a car freak to love this movie; everyone likes sports cars anyway. So, watch it.
7. Marriage story
Marriage story is a heartbreakingly beautiful film. It is about how relationships can be challenging and complex even when you love each other.
The movie is based on how relationships influence our lives. And everyone can relate to this movie as everyone is faced with these problems at some point in their lives.
It is an intense film, and it is phenomenal. Marriage story is directed by Noah Baumbach, and if you are a fan of drama, you will love this.
It doesn’t have any hero or villain; it is based on human emotion. Dialogues play a really important part in the film as it is based on communication.
This film also projects how hard it can get when two people go through a divorce, especially when a child is involved. It is a tear-jerker, but it is definitely worth watching.
8. The farewell
The farewell is a comedy-drama film. It is set around an Asian family. The story’s theme is basically that the grandmother of the house is diagnosed with lung cancer and everyone in the family knows about it but the actual patient.
None of the family members disclose that she only has a few weeks to live. All the family members want to say the final goodbye and to get the entire family in one place without raising suspicion; they organize a fake wedding where the whole family is bound to be present.
Lulu Wang directed it, and it is based on her life story. It is a hilarious and beautiful movie; you should watch it if you haven’t already.
9. 1917
1917 is by far one of the best movies ever made on war. It is beautiful, which is exactly what you would expect from a director like Sam Mendes.
A lot of people say that 1917 was the best film by Sam Mendes. It portrays World War I in such a different light, and the visuals are just mind-blowing.
The cast is super skilled, and the movie is filled with raw human emotion you can’t process without wondering. It is one of the best films of 2019, and if you haven’t yet seen it, you should watch it on a big screen.
The bigger the screen, the better the experience. If you don’t watch this movie, you will regret it for the rest of your life.
10. I lost my body
I lost my body is a French animated film by Jérémy Clapin. It is a strange movie; it is divided into two parts. On the one hand, it is the story of a young man who falls in love with a woman; on the other hand, it is the story of a severed hand looking for its body.
The concept is unique and is a fun movie at the end of the day. I hadn’t seen anything like it before, so it was pretty new.
But as weird and strange as it was, I did like it. So, should you watch it? Yeah, sure, it is a good movie. But if you prefer a literal, conventional, and straightforward film, you may skip this one if you like. But I still enjoyed it, and I still would recommend it.
11. Portrait of a lady on fire
Portrait of a lady on fire is a French film by Céline Sciamma. It is one of the best movies of the entire year and an absolute masterpiece.
The film is about a painter who is hired to paint the portrait of a lady who is to be given away in marriage.
She does not want to get married to the man, and she does not know that her companion is painting her portrait behind her back.
It is a bit slow and composed, but it has a beautiful meditation kind of appeal to it.
The film is shot in 8k, so the cinematography is one of the best of the entire year. The actors’ performance is brilliant, and this is worth mentioning in the list of best movies of 2019.
